This is the French hunting sword, circa 1750-1760. On the guard is a long neck bird which was very popular in europe at this time. The handle is made of cow horn and has twisted silver for ornimentation.
The sword would have been carried by soldiers and gentlemen alike. It would likely have been handed down in the family.
